DAVID R. THOMPSON

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- David Reed Thompson, 64 died July 10.

A memorial service will be held for Mr. Thompson at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant, S.C., Saturday at 2 p.m., with arrangements by Russell Funeral Chapel in Moncks Corner, S.C.

Born Sept. 21, 1944, in Washington, Pa., Mr. Thompson was the son of the late Eleanor Bortz Thompson and William Reed Thompson.

He graduated with honors from Woodberry Forest School in Orange, Va., and was a Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. After graduation from the University of North Carolina, Mr. Thompson enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served two tours of duty in Vietnam where he was wounded and awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star Combat V. After being discharged from the Marine Corps with the rank of captain, Mr. Thompson graduated from the University of North Carolina Law School.

For several years he practiced law in Goldsboro with the firm of Bland, Wood and Thompson. Throughout much of his adult life, he was an active church member, serving as deacon and elder both at First Presbyterian Church in Goldsboro and later at Mount Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant, S.C.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his three children, David Erwin Thompson of Tampa, Fla., Harry Frampton Thompson of Raleigh and Barbara Kalber Thompson Moses of Atlanta, Ga.; and two brothers, William deForest Thompson of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and George Albert Thompson of Washington, Pa.
