WILLIAM E. GARRIS
Died July 15, 2009
STANTONSBURG -- William Edgar Garris, 76, 667 Watery Branch Church Road, died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted tonight at 7 p.m. at the Church Street Chapel of Farmville Funeral Home, with the Rev. Alan Joyner and the Rev. Max Patterson officiating. Committal services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Stantonsburg Cemetery with military honors.
He was retired from the United States Navy where he was a member of the Fleet Reserve. He also attended Free Union Free Will Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret E. Garris of the home; daughters, Holly Knight and husband, Michael, of Farmville and Brenda Cole and husband, Lynwood, of Beulaville; sons, William M. Garris and wife, Janet, of Goldsboro and Steven E. Garris and wife, Sue, of Harker's Island; stepson, Mitchell Whitley of Stantonsburg; sisters, Katherine Carter of Wilson and Joyce Rowe of Stantonsburg; brothers, Bobby Garris of Raleigh, Jimmy Garris of Rocky Mount, Glenn Garris of Stantonsburg and Johnny Garris of Black Creek; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Garris was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Knight.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service tonight at Farmville Funeral Home.
