MAX SMITH
May 9, 1940 - June 13, 2009
LaGRANGE -- Harold Maxton "Max" Smith, 69, of LaGrange, died Saturday at his home.
A service of remembrance will be held Monday, June 15, 2009, at 2 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Hobgood officiating. Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Max was born on May 9, 1940, in Wayne County to Mildred Williams Smith of Seven Springs and the late Harold Deems Smith. He served in the U.S. Army, graduated from Mount Olive College and last worked in sales with White Owl Motor Co. Max was a member of LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed NASCAR, horses and
baseball.
In addition to his mother, Max is survived by his wife of 43 years, Edna Brown Smith; four children, Mark Smith and wife, Dina, of LaGrange, Roger E. Mewborn Jr. and wife, Diane, of Snow Hill, Monica Mewborn Creech and husband, Wyatt, of Snow Hill, Terri Mewborn Pridgen and husband, Randy, of LaGrange; brother, Linwood "Buddy" Smith of LaGrange; 15 grandchildren, Seth Smith, Gray Smith, Joshua Mewborn and wife, Kari, Jamie Mewborn, Jacob Mewborn, Michael Langley, Matthew Mewborn, Travis Mewborn, April Mewborn, Nicholas Creech, Brittany Creech, Will Creech, Diana Soles and husband, Chris, Daniel Pridgen and wife, Ashlyn, Stephen Pridgen; five great-grandchildren, Jonah Mewborn, Drew Mewborn, Levi Mewborn, Blayden Pridgen and Brody Soles. In addition to his father, Max was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Smith.
The family will receive friends beginning one hour before the service Monday. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.
