HARRY E. BOWDEN

June 15, 1912-May 29, 2009

MOUNT OLIVE -- The celebration of the life and legacy of Harry E. Bowden, 96, 700 S. Center St., will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Winn Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Howard, officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his wife, the late Lillie Ward Bowden at Carver Cemetery.

He was born in Duplin County June 15, 1912, to his parents, the late Ernest and Mary Faison Bowden.

His eternal rest took place Friday at Mount Olive Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Bowden was a painter for 40 years, but was best known for his ownership of Bowden Grocery Store. He was well-known in the community for the best hoop cheese and smoke sausage that could be found.

He also served faithfully as chairman of the trustee board and treasurer at Winn Chapel Baptist Church.

Cherished memories will live in the hearts of his devoted son and daughter-in-law, Ulysses and Evelyne Bowden of Mount Olive; two granddaughters, Yvonne Parker and Amber Bowden; and one great-grandson, Victor Parker.

A viewing will be held Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Garris Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will receive friends at 705 S Breazeale Ave., Mount Olive.

Online condolences may be posted at garrisfuneralhome.net.
