EULA W. THOMPSON

Eula West Thompson, 92, passed away Sunday evening at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Eureka Cemetery with the Rev. Eddie McKeel officiating.
Eula was born in Wayne County on Feb. 24, 1917, to the late Mary McKeel Rowe. She had retired as an engineer in the test laboratories at Rockwell International. Eula had served as the vice president of the Academy of Country Music and as president of the Pacific Palisades American Legion Auxiliary Unit 283. She was the recipient of a Golden Sparkplug Award from Pacific Palisades Community Council in 1977, and had served as the executive vice president of PAPA for the 1977 parade.
Other activities Eula was a member of included, the Pacific Palisades Civic League, the Air Force Association, the National Management Association, the Apollo Quality-Rehabilitation Team, Greater Los Angeles Press Club, and the Country Music Association, Inc. of Nashville, Tenn. She had served as the assistant editor for the "Vellez News," a country-western music magazine.
Eula attended Pineland Junior College and in 1942 went to work for North American Aviation and continued her college education at UCLA. She later returned to the east and joined the Women's Air Corps taking her officer training at Langley Field, Va., and at Iowa State Teacher's College.
Eula is survived by a dear friend, Shirley Kirk of Goldsboro, and many cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Nelson, who was killed during Vietnam, and her brother, Johnny Rowe, who was killed in Okinawa during World War II.
Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at 237 S. Hillcrest Drive, Goldsboro.
