Baseball

Chandler Patrick tossed four innings of shutout ball, Brody Morton supplied three base knocks and host Goldsboro waltzed by East Central 2A foe James Kenan, 8-0, on Friday.

Cameron Roux also enjoyed a profitable afternoon at the plate, going 2 of 4 with a triple and a double. Josh Hartsfield, who relieved Patrick in the fifth, also tallied a pair of base hits.

Catcher Matthew Lewis rounded out the shellacking with two base hits.

GHS (4-1, 1-0 EC 2A) returns to action on Tuesday, when it travels to face East Duplin.

North Duplin 13,

Neuse Charter 3

CALYPSO -- North Duplin used a nine-run outburst in the second inning to craft a 13-3, mercy-rule triumph over Carolina 1A foe Neuse Charter on Friday.

The Rebels now stand 4-1 overall this season, and 2-0 in league play.

Colby Bass helped author the blowout, going 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBI. Guy McNeill added two base hits and a pair of RBI, as did Ricky Cameron and Arthur Pigford.

Dylan Jones secured the win for North Duplin, allowing three runs on five hits over a five-inning stint.

He also struck out eight.

North Duplin returns to the diamond on Tuesday versus Union.

East Duplin 14,

Spring Creek 4

BEULAVILLE --  Spring Creek fell to East Central 2A foe East Duplin, 14-4, on Friday.

Jordan Ammons went 2 for 3 for the Gators, who fell to 2-4 overall this season and 0-2 in league play.

Jake Edens finished 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Spencer Jameson, Kevin Grady and Nathan Bell also scored runners for SC, which travels to face Wallace-Rose Hill on Tuesday.

Wayne Country Day 10,

Lawrence Academy 2

MERRY HILL -- Amane Godo continued his recent stellar form at the plate, starting pitcher Tanner Willman allowed just two hits over five innings and Wayne Country Day boat-raced Lawrence Academy, 10-2, on Friday.

Godo, who fared well earlier this week in a loss to Parrott Academy, went 2 of 4 on the afternoon with four RBI.

His effort was complemented by junior Avery Browning, who fashioned three hits and an RBI.

Willman, in control throughout, struck out four and walked two before ceding the cliff to Jack Talton in the sixth.

Wayne Country Day (3-1) returns to action on Monday as the host of Freedom Christian.

First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

New Bern 3,

Eastern Wayne 1

NEW BERN -- Sophomore Landon Ginn went 1 for 2 with an RBI as Eastern Wayne fell to ECC 3A foe New Bern, 3-1, on Friday.

Colby Miller, Andrew Fricks, Josh Gross and Jason Mitchell also recorded base knocks for the Warriors, who remain winless on the season.

Ginn absorbed the loss for Eastern Wayne, allowing seven hits over four innings. He also struck out four.

The Warriors are idle until Tuesday, when they play host to South Central.

Southern Wayne 0 

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne managed just three base hits during Friday's 4-0 setback to ECC 3A foe South Central.

Jack Casbarro, Dylan Whitley and Josh Grady recorded base knocks for the Saints, who failed to match SC's three-run outburst to start the sixth inning.

Aryc Chrisman absorbed the loss for Southern Wayne, allowing four runs on six hits in 51⁄3 innings.

The Saints (3-2, 0-1 ECC) next see action on Tuesday, when they travel to face New Bern.

Wilmington Christian 11,

Wayne Christian 1

WILMINGTON -- Conley Burke scattered four hits over six innings as Wilmington Christian registered an 11-1, mercy-rule victory over Wayne Christian on Friday.

The senior struck out 10 and walked one over 81 pitches.

Wayne Christian (2-2, 1-0 CPIC) returns to the diamond on Monday versus John Paul II.

Faith Christian Academy 4,

Bethel Christian 3

Sophomore Daniel Thompson proved the difference on Friday for undefeated Faith Christian, plating the winning run with a walk-off single in the Conquerors' half of the seventh inning.

FCA, now 3-0 on the season, next sees action on Monday, when it travels to face mighty Wilmington Christian.

Softball

C.B. Aycock 27,

J.H. Rose 0

GREENVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock returned to proper form on Friday, shellacking ECC 3A foe J.H. Rose by a 27-0 margin.

CBA (5-1, 2-0 ECC 3A) returns to the diamond on Tuesday, when it plays host to league rival D.H. Conley.

New Bern 21,

Eastern Wayne 2

NEW BERN -- New Bern plated 10 runs in the second inning en route to a 21-2, mercy-rule victory on Friday over Eastern Wayne.

Kaitlyn Ellis and Emily Newsome each had a pair of base hits for the Lady Warriors (0-5, 0-2 ECC 3A), who return to the diamond on Tuesday versus South Central.

South Central 11,

Southern Wayne 3

DUDLEY -- South Central freshman Isabel Moore scattered six hits and struck out 10 as South Central turned back ECC 3A foe Southern Wayne, 11-3, on Friday.

Goldsboro 12,

Freshman Mary Archibald enjoyed a profitable afternoon at the plate, Marcy Taylor hurled five shutout innings and Goldsboro turned back East Central 2A outfit James Kenan, 12-0, on Friday.

GHS now stands 1-4 overall, and 1-0 in league play.

Archibald finished 2 for 3 with 4 RBI, and was complemented by leadoff hitter Taylor Lane, who also contributed two RBI.

Junior Dakota Jones also factored prominently, going 2 for 3 with a pair of runners scored.

Taylor was solid throughout in the circle, earning her first win the season by scattering four hits over five innings and striking out two.

Goldsboro returns to the diamond on Tuesday, when it travels to face East Duplin.

North Johnston 7,

Princeton 2

KENLY -- Princeton could muster but seven hits in a 7-2 setback to neighboring non-conference foe North Johnston on Friday.

Brianna Myers and Meredith Wooten tallied two hits apiece, while University of Mount Olive commit Megan Bryant went 1 for 4.

Senior Casey Mitchell absorbed the loss for the Bulldogs, allowing seven runs on six hits in 42⁄3 innings.

PHS (3-2, 2-0 Carolina 1A) returns to the diamond on Tuesday as the guest of Hobbton.

Unity Christian 11,

Wayne Christian 8

Bri Verme struck out 11 batters, but it wasn't enough to propel Wayne Christian past Unity Christian on Friday.

The 11-8 setback was largely defined by a litany of Eagle errors in the sixth frame.

WC is now 0-3 this season.

North Duplin 0

CALYPSO -- Tristan Haines, Dargan Harris and Aubri Thomas each scored goals to lead Neuse Charter past Carolina 1A foe North Duplin, 3-nil, on Friday.

The Lady Rebels, now 0-5-1 overall and winless in league play, return to the pitch on Tuesday as the host of Union.

Goldsboro 2

James Kenan clipped host Goldsboro, 3-2, on Friday in a shootout after two extra sessions failed to produce a goal.

The setback moved GHS to 3-2 overall this season, and 0-1 in league play. It next sees the pitch on Tuesday at East Duplin.

Wilson Fike 3

DUDLEY -- University of Mount Olive commit Jack Casbarro struck out eight in 42⁄3 innings of work, Braxton Bradshaw went 2 for 5 with an RBI and Southern Wayne avenged last week's setback to Wilson Fike, 4-3, on Friday in 10 innings.

Dylan Whitley finished the night 2 for 5 at the plate for the Saints, who moved to 3-1 overall with the victory.

Aryc Christian, Kolby Anderson and Casbarro also provided RBI.

Southern Wayne now stands 3-1 on the season.

D.H. Conley 8,

Eastern Wayne 1

HOLLYWOOD CROSSROADS -- Eastern Wayne reached base just twice during Thursday's 8-1 setback to ECC outfit D.H. Conley.

Colby Miller finished the contest 1 for 3, while Andrew Fricks went 1 of 2.

Eastern Wayne now stands 0-5 overall this season and 0-1 in league play.

Rosewood 14,

Union 0

ROSE HILL -- Tanner Capps went 3 for 3 with three RBI, starter Max White struck out nine over five innings and Rosewood hustled past Carolina 1A foe Union, 14-0, on Thursday.

The never-in-doubt, mercy-rule decision was the league opener for RHS (2-1).

Senior Chance Howard also faired well at the plate, finishing 2 for 3 with an RBI. Jonathan Peacock, Tucker Chapin, Logan Price and White all notched RBI for Rosewood, which cranked out 13 hits on the afternoon.

The Eagles next see the diamond on Tuesday versus Lakewood.

North Duplin 9,

Lakewood 4

ROSEBORO -- Senior Ricky Cameron allowed two runs over five innings, Kyle Figueroa exploded at the plate and North Duplin posted a 9-4 triumph over Carolina 1A rival Lakewood on Thursday.

North Duplin now stands 3-1 overall this season, and 1-0 in league play.

Cameron was sharp from the outset, scattering five hits and fanning nine in a stint spanning 105 pitches.

Figueroa handled the rest, going 2 of 4 at the plate with a run scored and four RBI.

Colby Bass also fared well versus Leopard pitching, finishing the day with two base hits and an RBI. Guy McNeill (one RBI) and David Price (2 RBI) rounded out matters for North Duplin.

Wayne Christian 8,

Greenfield 3

Addison Johnson struck out seven in four innings of work, Jaxon Bauer went 3 for 4 with a quartet of RBI as Wayne Christian outclassed CPIC rival Greenfield, 8-3, on Thursday.

The victory moved WC to 2-1 overall this season.

Cole Jacobs and Tyler Kornegay also provided two base apiece hits for the Eagles, while Corbett Schaefer had a double that scored two runs.

Johnson was relieved in the fourth by Bauer, who finished Greenfield with six strikeouts.

Softball

Rosewood 20,

Union 0

ROSE HILL -- Rosewood plated 10 runs in its half of the first inning on Thursday, then cruised to a 20-0 victory over Carolina 1A outfit Union.

Kaitlyn Kincaid earned the win for RHS,  allowing just three hits on the afternoon.

Mackenzie Amodeo and Alyssa Smothers paced the Lady Eagles offensively, providing two base hits apiece.

Rosewood (1-0, 1-3 Carolina 1A) returns to the diamond on Monday at home versus Nash Central.

First pitch is scheduled fro 6:30 p.m.

North Duplin 21,

Lakewood 0

ROSEBORO -- Senior starter Alyssa Santos tossed a perfect game on Thursday as North Duplin dismantled Carolina 1A host Lakewood by a 21-0 margin.

Her effort spanned five innings and included 12 strikeouts.

She also supported her own cause at the plate, going 4 of 5 on the afternoon.

Hannah Martin, Hannah Brogden and Natalie Ramirez also torched Lakewood pitching, combining for six base hits.

GREENVILLE --  Charles B. Aycock suffered the might of host J.H. Rose on Thursday in a lopsided ECC 3A matchup.

The Golden Falcons, now 2-3-1 on the season, play host to West Johnston on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

SMITHFIELD -- Kayla Ham and Dargan Harris each scored as Neuse Charter blanked Carolina 1A neighbor Princeton on Thursday.
