GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Wayne Christian volleyball outfit played well in the Palmetto State this weekend, finishing third in the Bob Jones Invitational.

The Lady Eagles opened the event by going undefeated in Friday's pool play round, defeating Killian Christian 25-14 and 25-19, then dispatching Alamance Christian by a 25-21, 25-17 margin.

Saturday saw WC on the wrong end of its semifinal matchup with Southside Christian (17-25, 17-25), who ultimately claimed the tournament title.

In consolation play, the Lady Eagles turned back Bob Jones Academy by a score of 25-20, 25-19, 7-25 and 25-21.

Senior Kasey Norris paced the WC effort with 84 assists and 15 digs over the weekend. Hope Shook contributed 49 kills and 34 digs, while Ashlee Harrelson added 21 kills, 22 digs and six aces.

Sarah Sawyer provided 3 blocks, five aces and 11 kills. Holly Gurley supplied 32 digs. Ashton Cobb chipped in with a pair of blocks and 16 kills.

Madison Wells added seven service aces, and Adelyn Worling registered 16 assists and five service aces.

Wayne Christian in 8-6 overall this season, and a perfect 4-0 in conference play.

It travels to face rival Wayne Country Day School on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Oakwood 1

Wayne Country Day shook off a sluggish opening half to dismantle visiting Oakwood, 7-1  on Monday.

Nehemiah Shaw and Ben Cohen paced the outburst by scoring a combined four goals and registering two assists. Also scoring for the Chargers were Christian Garloch, Luis Lopez and Bash Attiah.

David Gurley contributed a pair of assists, while DJ Drew and Jack Talton notched one apiece.

"It was a well fought first half... Oakwood limited our chances," said WCDS coach Steve Ellis. "We rotated well off the bench in the game wnd will do so again tomorrow."

The Chargers travel to face neighbor Wayne Christian tonight at 7 p.m.

North Duplin 6,

Princeton 2

North Duplin scored four goals in the first half on Monday, then settled for a 6-2 victory versus Carolina 1-A foe Princeton.

Fernando Ferreyra and Bryant Keokanya each scored for the Bulldogs.

South Johnston 3,

Eastern Wayne 2

One-timers by Lance Steiner and Alfrado Cabrera weren't enought to propel Eastern Wayne by South Johnston on Monday.

Junior Josh Gross also managed an assist for the Warriors.

Lakewood 1,

Rosewood 0

SALEMBURG -- Rosewood suffered a 1-nil defeat at the hands of Lakewood on Monday. The setback moved the Eagles to 2-2 in Carolina 1-A play and 4-7 overall.

Goldsboro 3,

Southern Wayne 0

DUDLEY -- Goldsboro High stepped out of conference for a matchup with Southern Wayne on Monday, filing a straight sets victory.

The Lady Cougars managed a 25-20 triumph in the opening set, then won 25-16 and 25-13 to bring matters to a close.

The win moved Goldsboro, who travels to face Midway today, to 7-6 overall on the season.

Greene Central 0

SNOW HILL -- The Lady Blues of Charles B. Aycock worked in double time to dispatch host Greene Central on Monday by a 25-4, 25-12, 25-8 margin.

Arlanda Faulkner paced the CBA attack with 19 kills. Dekiya Thompson contributed 11 service aces.

Hannah Carter and Cassandra Lassiter also performed well for the visitors, filing 23 assists and 19 digs, respectively.

Oakwood 3

Wayne Country Day received goals from a quartet of players en route to a comprehensive victory over Oakwood on Monday.

Thad Moye and Preston Barnes scored two goals apiece and and were complemented by Thomas Gurley, who recorded the final strike for the Chargers.

Gurley, Max Young, Tanner Willman and Carns Edmonton all filed assists for WCDS -- with Edmonton notching two.

"We played really well until the last 10 minutes, where we gave up the three goals," coach Aaron Seate said. "Other than that, we played pretty well."

SNOW HILL -- The Rams of Greene Central raced out to a 25-14 victory in the opening set, then held on to preserve a 2-0 victory in non-conference action on Monday.

Norwayne defeated Grantham in straight sets on Monday by a score of 25-11, 25-12, 25-21.
