ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Country Day filed a 2-1 victory on the road Friday at Rocky Mount Academy.

Ben Cohen paced the Charger triumph with a pair of goals. Luis Lopez registered an assist.

"It was a well-fought game," head coach Steve Ellis noted. "We made it harder than it needed to be... the chances we created, we should have been more comfortable."

Now 14-1 on the season, WCDS next sees action in a home match on Tuesday versus John Paul II.

Greenfield 9,

Wayne Christian 0

Parker McIlvaine had eight saves in goal for the Eagles on Thursday, but it wasn't enough to slow defending CPIC 1-A champion Greenfield.

J.H. Rose 4,

Southern Wayne 1

GREENVILLE -- Shyquell Kornegay notched a goal in Southern Wayne's 4-1 road loss to J.H. Rose on Thursday.

The setback moved the Saints to 3-4-3 overall this season.

Rocky Mt. Academy 1

Lexi Jeffreys registered 10 kills on Friday as WCDS filed a 25-15, 25-15, 25-11 victory over Rocky Mt. Academy.

The straight-sets victory also featured quality play from Mia Bowlecheski, who had five kills and three aces.

Whitney Hoskins recorded five service aces. Cate Eagles led WCDS with 24 assists.

WC Competes

DUDLEY -- The Wayne Christian girls' golf team participated in a five-team match on Thursday at Southern Wayne Country Club.

Pacing the Eagle effort was Karsyn Roberts, who fired a round of 44.

Brianna Verme (53), Caroline Jones (55), Grace Buddin (58), Annalise Fitzmorris (61) and Paige Court (58) rounded out the Wayne Christian scoring effort.

South Central 5,

Eastern Wayne 4

WINTERVILLE -- Eastern Wayne fell to South Central by a 5-4 count on Thursday.

The Lady Dubs managed just one victory in doubles play, courtesy of Maddie Agner and Bess Gibson, who emerged in 8-1 fashion.

Agner (6-2, 6-3),  Ava Bowen (6-3, 6-0) and Bess Gibson (6-1, 6-3) paced the EW effort in singles play.

Now 2-8 overall and 2-7 in ECC 3-A matters, Eastern Wayne next plays host to Charles B. Aycock on Tuesday.

Thomas Gurley, Max Young and Thad Moye each recorded goals in Wayne Country Day's 3-2 victory over Rocky Mt. Academy on Friday.

Gurley and Young also provided assists.

"Obtained a great win on the road," head coach Noeh Avila said, "against one of the best teams we've played this season."

Spring Creek 0

Styles Kendall returned a kickoff 60 yards for a touchdown in Norwayne's lopsided victory over Spring Creek on Thursday.

Elisha Davis, Tylil Faison and Kendall all provided rushing touchdowns for the Cobras,while Chase Hare and quarterback Deontay Hooker also hooked up for a 30-yard touchdown pass.

Defensively, the Norwayne effort was helmed by Tyler Horton, who blocked a Spring Creek punt. Michael Parks and also factored prominently, forcing a fumble.

Davis led Norwayne in tackles.
