* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 61, Community Christian 55 -- Andrew Gattis pumped in 23 points for the Chargers, who emerged as the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference regular-season champions. Jaden Cooper added 16 points. WCDS (13-4 overall, 7-0 CPIC) returns to action next Tuesday in the CPIC tournament at Greenfield.
* Girls' basketball: Wayne Country Day 38, Greenfield 5 -- Sherica Cox knocked down 16 points as the Chargers picked up their 23rd consecutive win Tuesday evening. Katie Strickland registered 10 points. The Chargers (7-0 overall) conclude regular-season play Friday at arch rival Greenfield. There is no Coastal Plains Independent Conference tournament.
* Boys' basketball: South Central 36, C.B. Aycock 31 -- Jaylan Robinson and Jacari Outlaw collected 11 points apiece during the Golden Falcons' road loss Tuesday evening.
* Girls' basketball: Southern Wayne 32, D.H. Conley 28 -- Lamiya led all scorers with a career-high 22 points in the Saints' home win Tuesday evening. Cassandra Pearsall and Ariana Sutton each had four points.
Middle schools
* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 49, Community Christian 12 -- Cam Gerrard tallied eight points as the Chargers climbed to 10-1 overall and 6-1 against CPIC opposition this season. Trent Elliott and Rahul Patel each delivered a six-point outing. WCDS visits Greenfield on Friday.
