GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Vikings topple Cougars, again

KINSTON -- Natasia Wooten scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed five rebounds to propel host Kinston past Goldsboro, 47-44, in Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference varsity girls' basketball on Tuesday evening.

The see-saw triumph moved the Lady Vikings moved to 12-9 overall this season and 5-2 in conference play.

Wooten's stellar effort on the block was complemented by the timely perimeter shooting of Alena Rivers, who finished with 13 points and five rebounds. Michayla Dove and Samantha Lee also contributed to the scoring column, adding six points apiece for the green-and-gold.

Goldsboro was led by the triumvirate of McKayla Roberts, Destiny Lucas and sophomore point guard Tziah Kelly. The energetic Roberts finished with a team-high 15 points, while Lucas added 14 points and four rebounds.

Kelly finished with 14 points.

The setback moved Goldsboro -- which plays host to South Lenoir on Friday -- to 6-9 on the season and 2-5 in league play.
