WRESTLING: Aycock places second at conference tournament

NEW BERN -- Led by C.B. Aycock senior Joshua Wallace, the Golden Falcons snatched a second-place finish at the Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference Championships Saturday afternoon.
New Bern won the tournament with 209 points while CBA tallied 138 points.
After finishing the regular season at 45-3, Wallace was named ECC 3-A/4-A Wrestler of the Year. The senior claimed his fourth consecutive conference title on Saturday. He won at 152 pounds as a freshman and sophomore, 160 as a junior and he won at 182 pounds as a senior.
Freshman Tyler Hughes, who finished the season at 43-11, grabbed the individual title at 160 pounds.
Runners-up included Austin Doyle at 106 pounds, Devin Maldonado at 113 pounds and James Reser at 170 pounds. Third-place finishers included Justin Pittman at 120 pounds, Chris Parks at 126 pounds and Torrence Franklin at 285 pounds.
Next for the Golden Falcons is the 3-A state dual playoffs, which begin on Tuesday. Seeding and brackets will be posted today.

Southern Wayne snatched fourth place and tallied 101 points at the ECC 3-A/4-A Conference tournament. The Saints' Timothy Taylor won the individual title at 195 pounds. Runners-up included Devante Jackson at 138 pounds and Kimari Jackson at 160 pounds. Third-place grapplers included David Gomez at 132 pounds and Willie Leonard at 152 pounds.
Eastern Wayne finished in sixth place with 58 points. Warriors who finished runners-up included Jaleek Lewis a 132 pounds, Victor Skinner at 145 pounds and Nate Matthews at 152 pounds. Joseph Scofield placed third at 195 pounds.
