GIRLS' GOLF: Golden Falcons' Sauls shoots team-low 43 at GMGC

Five strokes separated the top four golfers during a five-team meet contested Thursday afternoon at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course.
South Johnston's Sydney Wheeless claimed medalist honors with a 39 -- one stroke lower than runner-up Natalie Hill of Smithfield-Selma. Charles B. Aycock's Abby Sauls fired a 43, followed by Maggie Riley of SSS with a 44.
SSS logged a three-player team total of 145 -- one stroke better than South Johnston and Aycock, which each carded a 146. Goldsboro placed fourth at 162, followed by Rosewood with a 178.
Aycock's Leah Campbell, the daughter of Rosewood head coach Shay Campbell, turned in a 50. Teammates Savannah Strickland and Anna Williams each scored a 53.
Ashley Smith led GHS with a 49. Riley Hales shot a 54, while Caroline Foy had a 59.
Shemaya Revis turned in a 54 for Rosewood. Rebecca Dunham and Briyanna Sutton each collected a 62.
