Zack Smith and Ryan Warren pounded out two hits apiece as Eastern Wayne knocked off North Lenoir, 5-4, in non-conference play Tuesday afternoon.

The Warriors swept the two-game regular-season series.

Smith and Warren (RBI) combined for three doubles. Collin Nix (RBI), Brock Johnson (RBI), Carlyle Smith (RBI), Mike Wiggins, Lee Daniels and Tanner Wells each contributed one hit.

Johnson started on the bump and worked five innings. He gave up three runs (two earned) and recorded four strikeouts. Wells took over and earned the save with two innings of three-hit, two-strikeout relief.

"We're pitching it good right now. You want to see that," EW head coach Jabo Fulghum said. "We're getting some timely hits. It wasn't the best game in the world, but a win is a win. I can tell we're getting a little more confidence, but we're still trying to find ourselves.

"We have to stay hungry, which is what it's all about."

Reed Parris started on the mound for NL and allowed one run on four hits in four innings of work. Alex Jones surrendered four runs on four hits in middle relief. Reese Hobbs threw the sixth.

Braxton Greene, Garrett Letchworth and Joseph Harrison paced the Hawks' offense with two hits apiece. Allen Sutton and Zach Turner each had one hit.

EW swept the two-game regular-season series.

The Hawks (0-2 overall) face Charles B. Aycock today, while the Warriors (3-1) entertain Greene Central on Thursday.
