The seventh time's a charm.

Princeton junior Hannah Horne recorded 13 saves on Tuesday evening at Cougar Stadium, but Goldsboro junior Ivey Wade surprised the Bulldogs with a goal after six attempts made by the Cougars in the first half.

Goldsboro eventually defeated Princeton, 1-0.

"That's what we've been working for -- press, press, press," Cougars head soccer coach Chad Lewis said. "We got three freshman forwards that can just fly, so we just want to switch them out as much as we can and press just as hard as we can. It seems to work so far."

Goldsboro midfielders dropped the ball off to sophomore Taironnicia Davis early in the first half. She dribbled to the goal three times, but Horne either dove for the ball or scooped it up.

Cougars freshman Makayla Roberts dribbled down the left side of the field twice. Horne denied her both times. Senior Angelina Nacca kicked the ball toward the goal, but Horned shielded the net with her arms.

Nacca figured it out.

She used her fancy footwork to pass the ball to Wade with nine minutes left in the half. Wade paused in front of the goal and kicked the ball to the right of the net. Horne dove, but the ball flew past her hands.

"One of our captains, Angelina, she just worked her butt off," Lewis said. "I think she came out for four minutes the whole game, and she was just a machine out there. She's definitely a captain on the field and off."

Senior Chelsea Hawley and junior Maddie Adkins dribbled the ball for the Bulldogs in the second half and got within striking distance of the goal. But Goldsboro's defense stole the ball away and kicked it past midfield.

The Bulldogs fired shots in the final minute of regulation, but could not tie the Cougars.

"I play possession-type soccer," Princeton head coach Brett Koehmstedt said. "They're (Bulldogs) used right now to dribbling. Of course, toward the end of the season, you'll start to see us pass the ball a lot more."

"The first half, they (Goldsboro) didn't start with that quick striker (Wade). All of a sudden she got in the game and it changed. Our keeper (Horne), she was really aggressive today.

"She hasn't been in recent games, but every game, she's gotten more aggressive. I think she was caught off guard initially when the striker came on."

Goldsboro (3-0-1 overall) travels to Eastern Wayne today. Princeton (3-2-0) opens Carolina 1-A Conference play Thursday at James Kenan.
