Rosewood 51, C.B. Aycock 48 (OT)
* Rosewood needed overtime to pull out a tough, 51-48 overtime win over county rival Charles B. Aycock on Friday evening.
Down three points with less than 10 seconds to play, Golden Falcons junior guard Ian Best curled off a screen and hit a deep 3-pointer to tie the game at 42. Best had a team-high 13 points, nine of which came from behind the arc.
Rosewood exploited Aycock's lack of size by continually going back to senior forward/center Dennis Mitchell under the basket. Mitchell finished with a game-high 28 points.
"Especially early on, we just fed him," Rosewood coach Daniel Mitchell said. "They didn't really have an answer for him early on. We just kept giving him the ball, and the guys did a great job of recognizing and continuing to try and look for him down there.
"He had a really good game."
Aycock and first-year head coach Dave Elmore endured yet another tough defeat. Elmore kept his team in the locker room longer than usual, and talked to them about how to cope with the rough stretch the team is experiencing.
"Man, there aren't right words to say," Elmore said. "Like I told them in the locker room, it doesn't matter what words I use or say -- or what anyone says right now -- it's not going to change how you feel right now.
"They're a group of men in there, and they have to keep fighting. They haven't quit all year. They've had chances to quit, but they haven't yet and I know that they're not going to."
