Lejeune 57, Spring Creek 50

* SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek head coach Charlie Cotten wasn't happy with the energy his girls brought early in the third quarter.

So he cleared his bench and took out four girls at one time, and put an inexperienced group of players on the court. They responded with a 10-2 run that cut a 10-point deficit down to two points, but could never tie the game or get a lead, as Lejeune held on for a 57-50 win Friday evening.

"Those girls came out with a lot of energy and they played really well," assistant coach Kaylee Herring said. "We just need to play a little better."

It didn't help when Spring Creek's then-leading scorer Destiny Sutton fouled out in the third quarter, and forced the Gators to find someone new to bring the ball down the court. Sutton finished with 11 points.

Only five Gators found the scoring column, but four finished in double figures -- Tysha Teachey (15 points), Ashley Marriner (11) and Amber Buchan (11).

The Gators dressed just nine players. Starting guard Jordan Lane missed the game with an illness and forward Taiesha Morgan is out with a knee injury.

Spring Creek (0-4 overall) travels to North Johnston on Wednesday.
