Girls' soccer

Goldsboro 6, Spring Creek 0

* Goldsboro notched the game-winning goal in the opening 60 seconds of play, and rolled past Spring Creek, 6-0, in the Carolina 1-A Conference regular-season finale for both teams Thursday afternoon.

The Cougars (8-7-1 overall, 4-2 CC) clinched a share of the regular-season championship along with Princeton. Rosewood could force a three-way tie today with a season-ending win against Spring Creek.

A draw, scheduled for today, will determine Goldsboro's seeding in the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs. The Cougars earned their first-ever postseason trip in program history.

Ana Harris, Holly Pittard and Dorian Wences collected two goals apiece. Pittard dished out two assists. Wences, Maddie Vera, Cassidy Morris and Morgan McLaughlin each dished out one assist.

Spring Creek finished the year winless.

Wayne Country Day 2, Ridgecroft 0

* AHOSKIE -- Catherine Ford and Sarah Best each scored a goal in Wayne Country Day's 2-0 win at Coastal Plains Independent 1-A foe Ahoskie Ridgecroft.

The Chargers (11-5-0 overall, 6-2-0 CPIC) entertain The Epiphany School today.

Wayne Christian 1,

Trinity of Raleigh 0, SO

* Kayla Kennedy and Regan Tart both scored goals in a shootout as Wayne Christian edged Trinity of Raleigh 1-0 on Thursday afternoon.

The game was tied at 0-0 at the end of regulation and overtime.

Wayne Christian travels to Community Christian today.

Softball

C.B. Aycock 6, Beddingfield 3

* PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock overcame an early 3-0 deficit and rallied for a 6-3, non-conference win over Wilson Beddingfield on Thursday afternoon.

The Bruins scored three runs in the top of the first inning. The Golden Falcons took the lead for good with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Meredith Burroughs led Aycock with three hits. Jessica Hare (RBI), Rachel Jordan, Reagan Herndon, Jenna Van Horn and Ivy Hartzell all contributed a hit.

Brooke Bell (15-4) earned the win inside the pitcher's circle. The right-hander allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits with two strikeouts and three walks.

The Golden Falcons (18-4 overall) shared the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference regular-season title with South Johnston. Aycock secured the No. 2 seed after losing a coin flip, and will play host to Cleveland in a quarterfinal-round ECC tournament game Monday.

Ayden-Grifton 14,

Goldsboro 0, five innings

* AYDEN -- Goldsboro concluded Carolina 1-A Conference play with a 14-0 loss in five innings at Ayden-Grifton on Thursday.

Talaya Lassiter collected a hit for the Cougars.

Bailee Ellis recorded three strikeouts inside the pitcher's circle.

JV sports

* Baseball: C.B. Aycock 4, Princeton 0 -- Winning pitcher Logan Runyon permitted one hit and logged five strikeouts in a six-inning stint. Ryan Grant supplied one inning of two-strikeout, one-hit relief in the Golden Falcons' regular-season finale. Garrett Joyner, Runyon (RBI) and Jacob Tucker (RBI) cranked out one hit apiece. C.B. Aycock (17-5 overall) won the inaugural Wayne County Junior Varsity Invitational with a 9-6 decision over Eastern Wayne. Grant claimed the mound win, working two-plus innings of relief. Tim Naughton and Rider Gardner (RBI) paced the offense with two hits apiece. Hunter Kennedy (RBI), Dustin Price (three RBI), Jacob Tucker and Conner Crandall each provided one hit.

Middle schools

* Baseball: Wayne Christian 12, Freedom Christian 5 -- Tyler Mozingo paced the Eagles with three hits, including two doubles, and an RBI. Carlyle Smith provided two hits and an RBI. Austin Howell (RBI), Holden Foster, Chandler Gentry, Hunter Burt, Tanner Rose, Brandon Price and Trey Hinton each added a hit. Wayne Christian (10-2) faces Myrtle Grove on Monday.

* Softball: Princeton 11, Four Oaks 1, 5 innings -- Charley Cox (RBI), Taylor Carroll, Kasey Edwards and Kelsey Peedin each had three hits for Princeton. Kasey Johnson contributed two hits. Logan Pace and Hailey Wood both added a hit. The Bulldogs finished the season with an 11-2 record and were conference champions.
