Princeton eases past Goldsboro on baseball diamond

PRINCETON -- Tyler Daniels provided two hits and three RBI, and Princeton turned back Goldsboro, 7-3, in Carolina 1-A Conference action Friday evening.
Austin Hinton (two RBI) and Drew McCoy (RBI) helped the Bulldogs, who picked up their first league victory in three attempts this season.
Forrest Stewart earned the pitching win in relief of Hinton, who held the Cougars scoreless and logged seven strikeouts in two innings. Stewart tossed three innings of five-strikeout, one-hit relief.
Trevor Haines finished off Goldsboro with three innings of two-hit, five-strikeout relief behind Stewart.
Needham Core slugged a two-run, sixth-inning home run for Goldsboro, which remained winless in conference play this season. Asunji Maddox added one hit and scored two runs, while Ronald Woody batted 1-for-3.
Marlon Thomas recorded seven strikeouts and took the pitching loss.
Princeton (4-6 overall, 1-2 CC) travels to Ayden-Grifton on Tuesday, while Goldsboro (2-10, 0-3) is the guest of county foe Spring Creek.
