Southern Wayne shot another solid team score and inched closer to the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference golf championship on Monday afternoon.

The Saints carded a four-player total of 324 to capture first place at the conference meet contested at Lane Tree Golf Club. Triton finished second with a 348 total. Charles B. Aycock (351), Eastern Wayne (364), South Johnston (366), North Lenoir (368) and Cleveland (385) rounded out the team standings.

Southern Wayne improved its lead in the league standings to seven points over Triton with just two conference matches to play.

"I think we are right where we want to be at this stage in the season," Saints head coach Jeremy Joyner said. "The conditions were tough today because of the wind out there. I think the breeze kind of got in some of the guys' heads, but overall I thought we played well."

Kyle Best paced the Saints with a round of 77, which was good enough to share medalist honors with Triton's Matt Ammons.

Will Bunch (79), Chris Best (83) and John Graham (89) rounded out the Saints' team score.

"Last season we finished third at the regional and we have everyone back this season," Joyner said. "We want to wrap up the conference title and turn our focus on a possible shot at a regional championship in a couple weeks."

Dylan Mitchell led Charles B. Aycock with a round of 82. Jordan Salter (86), Jordan Byrd (88) and Michael Fearney (95) rounded out the Golden Falcons' team score.

Caleb Jones fired a round of 85 to lead Eastern Wayne. Hidematsu Sueki (89), Andrew Green (85) and Elliot Best (101) completed the Warriors' team score.

North Lenoir was led by Alex Brownley's round of 84. Ryan Grady (87), Evan Jarman (97) Zack Hancock (100) completed the Hawks' total.

The next ECC meet is Monday at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course.
