PIKEVILLE -- Pesky Triton wasn't about to go away.

Charles B. Aycock didn't have any plans to stop scoring.

The Golden Falcons built an early lead and padded their advantage in a 10-5, Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference win on Friday.

Adam Pate scored on a wild pitch and Collin DuBose's RBI single gave Aycock a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Aaron Champion added an RBI infield single.

Jonathan Taylor's solo home run to center field in the bottom of the second pushed the lead to 4-0. Taylor finished with three hits.

Austin Lee's two-out, two-run home run to left-center field in the top of the fourth inning pulled the Hawks to within 4-2.

Pate scored on a wild pitch in the home half of the fourth to increase the Golden Falcons' advantage to 5-2. Cameron Taylor tacked on an RBI groundout. Jeff Davis' two-run single stretch the lead to 8-2.

Cody Sorrell's RBI single in the top of the fifth inning cut the deficit to 8-3. Triton threatened with the bases loaded and one out, but Aycock starting pitcher Derek Limbaugh recorded back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning.

Andreas Lopez's RBI infield single in the top of the sixth inning trimmed the lead to 8-4.

Davis' two-run home in the bottom of the sixth gave the Golden Falcons a 10-4 cushion. Davis had two hits and four RBI. Cameron Taylor and Justin Barbour both contributed two hits.

"I admire Triton for not quitting," said Aycock head coach Charles Davis. "The great thing about it was every time they scored we came back and answered. We did some things right and we were able to score just about every time they did.

"Triton is a team that is going to play you hard and they're never out of it until the last moment."

The Hawks' picked up a run on Dillon Stewart's RBI single in the top of the seventh inning.

Limbaugh earned the win on the mound. The right-hander surrendered four earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks in five innings. Bryant Stafford allowed one run in two innings of relief.

The Golden Falcons (10-2 overall, 7-0 ECC) earned their eighth consecutive win and continue to lead the ECC by two games over Southern Wayne and Eastern Wayne. Aycock visits North Lenoir on Tuesday.

"With all the injuries we have, Mick Walker is out right now, somebody is stepping up and playing for us," said Davis. "These guys right here, they're not worried about their stats, where they're playing or where they're hitting in the lineup. All they want to do is win and it's a great group to be around."
