Wayne Country Day swept the regular-season series.

On a cold and rainy afternoon, the Chargers controlled the tempo and possession in a 3-0 triumph over county rival Wayne Christian.

"I was pretty happy with what I saw out our guys tonight," said WCDS head coach Michael Taylor, whose team beat the Eagles seven days ago.

"We had a lot of scoring chances, and we finally started putting some of them in the net toward the end of the game."

Tyson Pearson got the Chargers on the board in the 19th minute when he collected a loose ball in the middle of the field, and fired a shot into the corner of the net from 25 yards out.

Wayne Country Day outshot Wayne Christian 14-5 in the first half, but came away with just one goal. Eagles goalie Chase King was a big reason for the offensive futility as he notched seven saves in the opening 40 minutes.

"Chase really played a great game," said Wayne Christian head coach Darryl Anderson. "He made a few nice saves early and kept us in it during the first half."

Wayne Country Day (5-1-0 overall) continued its onslaught in the second half.

In the 61st minute, Cameron Ford delivered an insurance goal for the Chargers as he slipped and fell just outside the 18-yard box. The twisting shot found the back of the net as Ford bounced off the wet turf.

Just four minutes later, Ford capped the scoring with a header off of Hil Tanner's corner kick.

"This was definitely the best game that Cameron has played this season," said Taylor. "I thought that Hil and Tyson each played their best game tonight as well."

Wayne Christian mounted a final offensive push over the final five minutes, but could not sneak a shot past Charger keeper Tucker Pearson. The Eagles'" best chance came off the foot of Davis Taylor who sent a shot just over the crossbar.

On the night, Wayne Country Day held a 22-7 advantage in shots on goal.

The Chargers will host Goldsboro on Wednesday, while Wayne Christian (3-2-0) visits Carolina Christian foe Crossroads Christian today.
