MOUNT OLIVE -- Angelo Acquah and Adrian Daniels combined for two goals within the first three minutes as Mount Olive College dispatched in-state rival Chowan University 6-1 at Amon Field on Wednesday evening.

Acquah and Daniels finished with two goals apiece for the Trojans, who are ranked No. 10 in the Division II Southeast Region men's soccer poll. Daniels dished out two assists.

Ramon Gallardo recorded two assists for the Trojans, while Scott Mitchell finished with a goal and an assist. MOC has outscored the opposition 9-2 in its first two matches of the season.

Unlike Saturday's match against USC Aiken, the Trojans started quick behind Acquah's first goal. Daniels notched the second goal off Frank Boateng's ball from midfield at the 2:29 mark.

"We wanted to start off tonight like we finished in the first match," said Mitchell, a junior from Herndon, Va. "We started off slow in our first match, so we wanted to get off to a quick start tonight."

Chowan (0-3-0 overall) scored in the 48th minute to avoid the shutout.

Mount Olive goalies Zac Scott and Jamie Carano split time at keeper. Each recorded one save on six Chowan shots.

The Trojans (2-0-0 overall) continue their season-opening, four-game home stretch with a Labor Day contest against in-state rival Wingate University. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Moore selected

HIGH POINT -- Mount Olive College junior Melissa Moore has been selected the Conference Carolinas women's cross country runner of the week.

A transfer from Cape Fear Community College, Moore finished first out of 19 runners during the Trojans' season-opening victory over Barton. She ran the 5-kilometer course in 21 minutes, 24 seconds.

Moore was MOC's top finisher in every meet last season.

The Trojans run again Sept. 12 at the Wingate University Invitational.
