William Troy “Bill” Winslow, 87, Goldsboro, passed away Nov. 1, 1930, in Wayne County to the late John William “J.W.” Winslow Jr. and Martha Adams Winslow.

Bill was a 1949 graduate of Goldsboro High School and a 1953 graduate of Duke University.

He served in Korea as a first lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.

He started his financial career with Goldsboro Building and Loan, which later became First American Savings and Loan of which he was president and CEO.

Upon retirement, he was affiliated with Wayne Realty and Insurance Co. for a number of years.

Bill was active in the community, serving as chair of the following: Wayne County Memorial Hospital, Goldsboro Area Chamber of Commerce, Goldsboro Committee of 100, Wayne County Industrial Development Committee, Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Goldsboro Country Club, Crimestoppers and Goldsboro Salvation Army.

He was a recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Cornerstone Award.

He also served as a board member of the United Way, Family Y, the Boys and Girls Club, Savers Life Insurance Co., Republic Mortgage Insurance Co. and the North Carolina Savings and Loan League.

He was a past president of Goldsboro Rotary Club and Golden K Kiwanis Club.

He volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the reading program at Northeast Elementary School and as a guardian ad litem.

Bill was a lifetime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where he served several terms as trustee chairman, finance chairman and president of the Methodist Men.

He also served on the North Carolina Methodist Retirement Home board and the Conference Committee on Episcopacy.

He was an avid tennis player, and was a member of the East Carolina Tennis Association and Goldsboro Tennis Foundation.

In high school, he was a state doubles tennis champion, and was also named to play in the inaugural state all-star East-West football game.

He was known by all as an avid supporter of Duke Athletics, and was an Iron Duke Member.

A service celebrating Bill’s life will be held Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of St. Paul United Methodist Church, with the Rev. James Harry and the Rev. Madison Hankal officiating.

The family will greet friends following the service at the church and other times at the home.

Bill is survived by his daughters, Troy Ferguson and husband, Claud, of Goldsboro and Manning Musgrave and husband, Doug, of Goldsboro; sons, Will Winslow and wife, Kathy, of Durham, Chuck Winslow and wife, Rhonda, of Goldsboro and Matt Winslow of Goldsboro; sister, Martha Ray Joyner; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Charline T. Winslow; sister, Lyda W. Adams; and a grandson, Andrew Ferguson.
