MARJORAY WILLIAMS SHIVAR

MARJORAY WILLIAMS SHIVAR

Nov. 11, 1929–June 7, 2018

Marjoray Williams Shivar passed away June 7, 2018.

She was the daughter of the late Julia Frances Garris Williams Edwards and George Jordan Williams and the granddaughter of the late Laura Frances and Melvin Garris with whom she lived for a time during her youth.

The Seven Springs area was her home throughout life except for time spent traveling with her military husband, the late Ned Shivar.

Her teaching career of 27 years included stints in Lenoir, Johnston, Wayne and Cabarrus counties in North Carolina, two years with Department of Defense Schools in Orleans, France, and five years in Naples, Italy, which was a place dear to her heart.

She lived with great energy and joy, and loved gardening.

She enjoyed many loyal, loving and lifelong friendships.

She was a member of Seven Springs United Methodist Church for most of her life, but as she grew old and cold, she could not attend as often as she would have liked.

Marjoray was predeceased by her wonderful stepfather, Otha Milton Edwards; sisters, Laura Mae Williams and Laura Blanche Williams Wilson; and her brother, Oscar Milton Edwards.

She is survived by her daughter, Laura Sybil Shivar; precious grandson, Jimmy Ned Shivar Person; son-in-law, Jimmy Brooks Person; brother-in-law, Joseph Wilson; nieces, Mary Frances Wilson Guilliams (Jimmy), and Esther Jo Wilson Davis (Charles); great-nieces, Laura Rachel Barwick Swinson (Greg) and Hannah Lottie Guilliams; great-nephew, Aaron Barwick (Cayla); great-great-nephews, Wilson Dexter Rouse and James Ellis Swinson; niece, Candy Edwards Alexander; and great-nephews, Milton Jerry Herring and James Paul Alexander.

She also leaves behind first cousins, Jean Edwards Brinson and husband, L.H., Paula Garris Craig and husband, Bob, and Donald Wayne Williams and wife, Mary.

Last but certainly not least, she will be missed by her Shelton Bathea Sutton, without whom she could not have survived.

Friends and family are invited to remember Marjoray from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 10, in Price-Jackson fellowship hall at Seven Springs United Methodist Church, “the church on the hill.”

The family will hold a private service of committal in the church cemetery, and would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to all who walked with them along this final path.

Marjoray had hoped that those wishing to do something in her memory would either plant a tree or shrub and think of her.

She may also be remembered by making a contribution to Seven Springs United Methodist Church, c/o Judy Jackson, 2330 Indian Springs Road, Dudley, N.C., 28333, or Seven Springs Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 128 Jerusalem Road, Seven Springs, N.C., 28578.

Arrangements are with Tyndall Funeral Home.
