John Green Parks, 89, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Wayne UNC Health Care.
John was born in Wayne County, N.C., on July 18, 1928, to the late Berry Emmitt Parks and Birdell Herring Parks. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. John will be remembered by many for his love of Carolina basketball.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Lee Lane, of Hood Swamp Friends Church, officiating.
John is survived by his nephew, Alfred Parks and wife, Marlene, and their daughter, Marla, of Goldsboro; as well as several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Aaron Parks, Paul Parks, Claude Parks and Wilbur Parks; and his sisters, Celia Gardner, Mary Lankford, Mae Bowen and Doris Best.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Hood Swamp Friends Church, 710 Hood Swamp Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
