Retired United States Army Sgt. 1st Class Donald Leroy Moler, 80, passed away peacefully April 11, 2018, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro with full military honors to follow.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Mr. Moler was born in Illinois Aug. 13, 1937, to the late Merle Moler and Mildred Pinnick Moler.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

Mr. Moler was a medic in the United States Army, and during his career, served in Vietnam, held a first sergeant position at his duty station in Germany, was an NCO instructor at Fort Campbell, Ky., and served at various other duty locations before his retirement after 21 years of distinguished service to his country.

He was also retired Civil Service from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C., where he worked for civil engineering.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Evelyn Moler of Pikeville, N.C.; two daughters, Mary Hickman and husband, Darryl, of McHenry, Miss., and Donna Moler of Pikeville, N.C.; two brothers, Tommy Moler of Lockhart, Texas, and David Moler of Universal City, Texas; one sister, Susann Riordan and husband, Pat of New Harmony, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Tonya (Tung ja) Moler of Clarksville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Alissa Main and husband, Logan, of Perkinston, Miss., Darryl Hickman and wife, Amanda, of McHenry, Miss., Justin Hickman and wife, Alysha, of San Antonio, Texas, Andrew Martens of Pikeville, N.C., Kevin Martens of Little Creek, Va., Evelyn Edwards of Pikeville, N.C., Hubert Edwards of Pikeville, N.C. and Tristen Moler of Pikeville, N.C.; six great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Serenity, Sophia, Darryl (Trip), Novalee and Axel; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Moler was preceded in death by two brothers, Wesley and Charles Moler; a sister, Kay Evans, two brothers-in-law, Pepper Fleenor and Ronald Kerley; two sisters-in-law, Drew and Mary Moler; and a son-in-law, Hubert G. Edwards.
