WILLIAM LUTHER PALMER

William Luther Palmer, 96, Goldsboro, peacefully passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at home.

Palmer was born in Geneva, Ala., Jan. 23, 1922, one of nine children, to the late James and Ellie Shields Palmer.

He served as a foreman with Four County Electric in Columbus, Miss., and with Irby Electric in Jackson, Miss., retiring after 40 years of service.

Palmer was a true southern gentleman, and could light up a room, bringing great joy to those around him.

He could often be heard yodeling the melody of one of his favorite songs.

Palmer and Doris loved to travel with his work, visiting several states including Mississippi, Virginia, Florida, South Carolina, Kentucky, Ohio and Louisiana.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 14, 2018, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Palmer's life at 10 a.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Allen Strickland and the Rev. Bill Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

Palmer is survived by his wife of 48 years, Doris Sykes Palmer; sons, Billy Palmer of Florida and Steve Palmer and wife, Niki, of Texas; stepsons, Charlie Tew and wife, Judy, of Goldsboro and James Tew and wife, Sybil, of Antioch, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews he loved very much, including Gay, Marie, Teddy and Jay.

He is also survived by his beloved canine companion, Luke.

The family would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to Community Home Care and Hospice for the love and support it gave the family.
