Clifton Gene Merritt Sr., 86, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.
Clifton was born in Wayne County Feb. 8, 1932, to the late Norman and Gulie Braswell
Merritt.
He was a valued employee of G&M Sales in Goldsboro for 42 years.
Clifton was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Mount Olive.
A service to celebrate Clifton's life will be held at noon Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Unity Baptist Church in Mount Olive, with pastor Ronnie Wise and Andrew Merritt officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
Clifton is survived by his wife, Martha Millard Merritt; daughters, Ann Lethco and husband, Jim, of Faison, Marlene Edmundson and husband, Jay, of Seven Springs and Kimberly Colvin and husband, Roger; son, Clifton Gene Merritt Jr. and wife, Emily; sisters, Elizabeth Dudley of Grantham, Frances Crumpler of Goldsboro and Sarah Ann Sewell of Goldsboro; brothers, Ray Merritt of Goldsboro and Howard Merritt of Goldsboro; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Marie Chase Merritt; brother, Bill Merritt; and sister, Verna M. Scott.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 4, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
