Charles Robert Echols Sr., 69, died Wednesday at his residence.
Born in Jacksonville, Fla., he was the son of the late Joseph Fred Echols and Ethel Irene White Echols.
He was retired from the United States Army, and was a founding member of Wayne County Cruisers.
A service to celebrate Mr. Echol's life will be held Thursday, March 29, at 2 p.m. at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Mr. Echols is survived by his wife, Robin Echols; his sons, Joseph Echols Sr., Aaron Echols, Scott Echols, Robert Echols and Tim Echols; two brothers, Rick Echols and Fred Echols; a sister, Judy Nichols; nine grandchildren, including J.J., Zain, Haelyn, Jaedyn, Josalyn and Bethani; and his canine best friend, Sam.
