RICHARD H. POTTER II

Ret. Master Sgt. Richard "Rick" Henry Potter II, 70, peacefully passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, with his family by his side.

Rick was born in Johnson County, Ky., on Feb. 2, 1947, to the late Richard Henry Potter and Frances Elizabeth Riffe Potter Harmon.

He was a finance specialist with the United States Air Force and retired after 25 years of service. He also retired as a programs director from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. Rick was a 1965 graduate of Paintsville High School and also received his associate degree from The Community College of the Air Force and his bachelor's of applied science from The University of Mount Olive.

A private memorial service was held Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

Rick was survived by his wife, Donna Gail Barber Potter; son, Eric J. Potter of Mount Olive; sister, Linda Meek of Paintsville, Ky.; grandchildren, Ainsley Bonner, Courtney Mooring, Victoria Bailey, Jessica Bailey, Eric Jason Potter, Kimberley Potter and Michael Potter; and his great-grandchildren, Lexus Phillips, Emily Mooring, Riley Mooring, Kaelyn Brook, Brayden Brockmyer, Jenna Barnett and Jordan Barnett.

In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his son, Richard H. Potter III; and daughter, Tanya Bailey.
