JOE HENSLEY

Sept. 6, 1944-Dec. 22, 2017

Joe Dallas Earl Hensley, 73, LaGrange, passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at the North Carolina State Veterans Home.

Joe was born Sept. 6, 1944, and was the son of the late Rev. Dallas Hensley and Bessie Hippshire Hensley.

Joe began proudly serving his country at the age of 16. He first served in the United States Navy, and later enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he achieved the rank of sergeant.

While serving in the military, Joe was trained as an aircraft mechanic.

Following his discharge from service, he worked many years as a heavy equipment mechanic.

Joe was one who never met a stranger, and was always available to lend a helping hand.

Mischievous by nature, Joe enjoyed making others smile with his wit and sense of humor.

He enjoyed traveling with his beloved Carol.

A visit to the Western Sizzlin or Golden Corral always brought a smile to Joe's face, and no day was complete for Joe without one of his favorite cigarettes, Winston Light 100s. We all treasure our wonderful memories of Joe.

A graveside service to celebrate and honor Joe's life will be held Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at noon from Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

Joe is survived by his wife of 13 years, Carol Layden Hensley; two children, Angie H. Watts of Richmond, Va., and Dana Hensley of Kannapolis; granddaughter, Jessica Mitchum and husband, Auston, of China Grove; great-granddaughter, Maddie Mitchum; and stepson, Eddie Jones and his wife, Anna, and their children, Gwyneth, Morgan and Evan, of State College, Pa.

Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.

Joe's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the North Carolina State Veterans Home for its loving care. Words can't begin to express our gratitude.

Arrangements are entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home of LaGrange.
