Mr. John Wesley Johnson Jr., 50, lovingly known by his family and friends as "Jay," 650 Curlew Circle, Sumter, S.C., passed away Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, in LaGrange, N.C.
"Jay" was born in Washington, D.C., Aug. 11, 1967, to the late Mr. John Johnson Sr. and the living Mrs. Laura Hines-Johnson.
John was educated in the Lenoir County public school system.
After graduation, Jay enlisted into the United States Army. He served his country honorably, and John received numerous medals and commendations.
After 25 years of service, John retired with the rank of master sergeant.
John loved his family and his friends, and he loved his church, Liberty Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at 1 p.m. in Liberty Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 2704 N.C. 903 South, LaGrange, N.C. Pastor Harold O. Warren will officiate.
Interment will follow in LaGrange Memorial Park Cemetery, 295 W. James St., LaGrange, N.C.
Also, a public viewing will be held Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, from 2 to 6 p.m. in Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 E. Washington St., LaGrange, N.C., with the family present from 5 to 6 p.m.
Mr. Johnson Jr. leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories to his daughter, Lauren Johnson of Athens, Ga.; his son, Christian Jones of Fredericksburg, Va.; his mother, Laura A. Johnson of LaGrange, N.C.; his brother, Michael D. Johnson and wife, Tara, of Goldsboro, N.C.; his two sisters, Stacy Johnson and Angela D. Jones and husband, Garry, both of LaGrange, N.C.; his special friend, Sabrina Northcut of Sumter, S.C.; his three aunts, Daisy M. Johnson, Betty M. Bynum and husband, Tiny, of LaGrange, N.C., and Neva Miller of Washington, D.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, the family members and friends will assemble at the residence of Mrs. Laura Johnson, 308 W. Queen St., LaGrange, N.C., at 11:45 p.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.
