ALICE S. EDWARDS

July 8, 1923-Nov. 15, 2017

Alice Sykes Edwards, 94, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Alice was born in Nash County July 8, 1923, to the late Garland Reid Sykes and Annie Lou Marshbourne Sykes.

She loved Madison Avenue Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, and was a dedicated and faithful servant.

Her most significant role in life, and what she did best, was being a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Alice will be sorely missed here on earth, but we take solace in the fact that she has now rejoined the love of her life, her husband, Hodge.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at 3 p.m. in Peachtree Baptist Church Cemetery in Spring Hope, with the Rev. Dr. Randy Outland officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.

Alice is survived by three sons, Ronald H. Edwards and wife, Linda, Virgil R. Edwards and wife, Elaine, and Ralph D. Edwards and wife, Betty, all of Goldsboro; one daughter, Alice Jane Davis and husband, Donald, of Winterville; grandchildren, Christie Edwards Pope, Susan Marie Edwards, Justin Reid Edwards, Shelley Elaine Edwards, Ralph Daniel Edwards, Erik Brandon Edwards, Matthew Brian Edwards, Carrie Elizabeth Warren, Sara Paige Davis and Dana Grace Davis; and several great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her brothers, Charles Sykes of Emporia, Va., and Everett Sykes of Reidsville.

In addition to her husband and family, Alice was preceded in death by her infant son, Norwood R. Edwards; sisters, Julie Upchurch and Pauline Sykes; and brothers, J.G. Sykes and Alvin Sykes.

The family would like to express its appreciation for the compassionate care provided by Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Love and heartfelt thanks are also expressed to the Christian caregivers, who provided excellent care for our mother in her home. May God bless each of you in a very special way.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
