Mrs. Michelle Anne Hayes, 55, of 115 Trail Ridge Lane, Princeton, passed on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at home.

A memorial service will be held on Oct. 4, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 164 Longs Plant Farm Road, Goldsboro, N.C.

She was born on April 9, 1962, in Syracuse, N.Y., to Charles Earl and Barbara Jean Gilmore LeBlanc.

She is survived by her loving husband, William M. Hayes; two sons: Shaun Hayes and fiancée, Christina Nicole Lancaster, and three girls, and Joshua Hayes and wife, Celeste; grandson, Dakota Hayes; mother, Barbara Wallace and husband, James; sister, Catherine and husband, Arthur Steinbrecher; brother, Jamie DeCarr; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles E. LeBlanc; and two sisters: Lisa DeCarr and Suzanne Cryder.

Michelle was always an advocate for the defenseless. She worked for the Lighthouse of Wayne County Inc., a domestic violence and sexual assault program. Later, she began working as a child advocate for the Lenoir County Department of Social Services, until she retired due to health reasons. She earned her associate's degree from Wayne Community College, before going on to earn her bachelor's degree in social work from East Carolina University.

In lieu of flowers, make donations to her husband, William M. Hayes, 115 Trail Ridge Lane, Princeton, N.C., 27569 to hold in trust and forward for research on her disease, inclusion-body myositis (IBM).

Services of compassion and distinguished class entrusted to J. B. Rhodes Funeral Home and Cremation of Goldsboro.
