David Michael Stevens died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at Kitty Askins in Goldsboro, N.C., after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's at the age of 68.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janie Lambert Stevens; two sons, Matthew Stevens and Jason Stevens and wife, Ashley; grandchildren, Garrett and Caroline Stevens; siblings, Everett Stevens and wife, Emma, Woodrow W. Stevens and wife, Sally, Charles Stevens and wife, Freddie, Jerry Stevens and wife, Joyce, Wilson Stevens, Virginia Fields, Annette Stuart and Libby Hooks and husband, Mike; brother- in-law, James A. Lambert; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow W. and Mary Helen Grant Stevens, and sister, Barbara Grice.

David was born in Wayne County and raised in Grantham.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving as a communication officer in the Philippines and Germany during his tour of duty.

He was a graduate of East Carolina University, and worked for more than 20 years at AP Parts of Goldsboro as an accountant, and another 10 years as an accountant for Carlton Insurance Agency in Warsaw.

He was a former Jaycee, coached T-ball for a number of years at Calypso for both his boys' teams and served as a Cub Scout leader.

Funeral services and visitation will be held at Tyndall Funeral Home at Mount Olive Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. The Rev. Paul Rose will officiate the service. Burial will be held Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. in Calypso Cemetery.

The family will receive friends and family after the service, and can be seen at other times at the residence, 707 Baker Chapel Church Road, Mount Olive.
