Nellie Howell Jackson, 86, Goldsboro, peacefully passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017, while surrounded by her family.

Nellie was born Jan. 25, 1931, in LaGrange to the late Tom Howell and Sudie Harrison Howell.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, the Rev. Marvin Howell and Sam Jackson; two children, Faye Howell Pate and David Paul Howell; two brothers, R.D. Howell and Major Howell; and a son-in-law, the Rev. Richard Thomas.

Nellie was a lady of great inner strength, who thrived on being independent.

She cherished her family, and nothing was more important than their happiness and well being. One with a giving and caring heart, Nellie often placed the needs of others ahead of her own.

Nellie enjoyed shopping. Nothing was better than a trip to Belk or Sam's Club. She loved trips to Raleigh and dining at her favorite restaurant, Bahama Breeze.

Nellie retired from Made-Rite Bakery, and during her retirement years, worked as a home caregiver. Her memory shines bright in the hearts of her family.

A graveside service to celebrate Nellie's life will be held Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at 11 a.m. from Fairview Cemetery, with Bishop Marvin Wiggins officiating.

Nellie is survived by two daughters, Sharon Howell Thomas and Dean Howell Corbett and husband, Johnny; sister, Ruth Chase and husband, Dale; son-in-law, Tommy Pate Sr.; 10 grandchildren, Tommy Pate and wife, Karen, Angie Eubanks and husband, Eddie, Treva Hill and husband, Scotty, Tiffany Danelle and fiancé, Matt, Sykonda Moody, Juanita Dean and husband, the Rev. Tim Dean, the Rev. Kimberly Waters and husband, the Rev. Aaron Waters, Johnny Corbett and wife, Heather, James Corbett and wife, Ashley, and Sandy Sanchez and husband, the Rev. Andres Sanchez; a special niece, Sybil Coley; 27 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received Wednesday following the graveside service and at other times, the family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Chase, 377 Forehand Road, Pikeville.
