Joseph Linwood Dawson, 85, Goldsboro, passed away on Monday at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Linwood was born in Wayne County on Aug. 11, 1931, to the late Joseph B. Dawson and Beatrice Head Dawson. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years of service. Linwood proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of New Hope Friends Church where he sang in the choir.

The family will greet friends on Friday, July 21, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m. at New Hope Friends Church, followed by a service to celebrate Linwood's life at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary with Bill Garner officiating.

Linwood is survived by his sons, Jerry L. Dawson and wife, Wanda, of Pikeville, and Stan Dawson and Nancy of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Gary Edwards and wife, Linda, Stacy E. Drummond and husband, Matthew, Jamee D. Foster and husband, Terry, and Jeneen D. Moore and husband, Brad; brother, Shelton Dawson, of Goldsboro; and sister, Eleanor Pope, of Goldsboro. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Farrell Dawson.
