MARIE VINSON SMITH

Oct. 9, 1943-July 6, 2017

Mrs. Marie Vinson Smith, 73, LaGrange, passed away Thursday at Wayne UNC Heathcare surrounded by her family.

Marie was born in Lenoir County to the late Herman H. Vinson and Hazel Parrish Vinson.

She was a lifetime member of Garris Chapel Methodist Church. Her life of dedication to her family was always demonstrated by her Christian love toward her family, especially to her grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Granny Re."

One of her favorite pastimes was attending her grandchildren's baseball games.

Mrs. Marie was an avid outdoors lady who enjoyed farm life, and was an ardent University of North Carolina fan.

Mrs. Smith was previously employed as plant manager for Blue Bell.

For the past 34 years, she was office manager for N.C. Salvage, working side by side with her sister, Sally Faye Herring, and her buddies and friends, Charles "Tadpole" Daniels and Walter Ray Daniels. Together they helped to make N.C. Salvage one of the most successful recycling operations in the state.

Mrs. Smith was well known for giving direction to employees and family, and she lived by the motto that she was always right until proven wrong.

A funeral service to celebrate Marie's life will be held Sunday, July 9, 2017, at 6 p.m. from Garris Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Adam Seate and the Rev. Gabe Mitchell officiating. Interment will be Monday, July 10, 2017, at 10 a.m. from Fairview Cemetery.

Marie is survived by her husband, Lynwood "Buddy" Smith; daughters, Lynn Crumpler and husband, Jeff, and Lori Smith and husband, Scott; grandchildren, Jeffrey Crumpler and wife, Emily, Malori Price and Carlyle Smith; sisters, Lou Ann Price and husband, Jake, Sally Faye Herring and husband, Elvin, Mary Cruse and husband, William Earl, Sheila Suggs and Donna Smith and husband, Bob; brother, Jimmy Vinson and wife, Linda; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved church family and N.C. Salvage family.

Family will receive friends Sunday evening following the service at the church in the family life center and at other times, at the home.
