JEAN C. LONG

Dec. 10, 1936-May 23, 2017

Shelby Jean Corbett Long, 80, Goldsboro, received her heavenly reward Tuesday, May 23, 2017, while surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born Dec. 10, 1936, in Lenoir County to the late Roby Corbett and Louise Hines Corbett. She was wife of the late Benjamin Franklin Long.

Jean worshipped her Lord at Brogden Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Her faith in Jesus and concern for others was exhibited in all she did.

Jean was a people person. She never met a stranger, and made everyone feel welcome in her presence. Her concern for others often caused her to place the needs of others ahead of her own needs.

She believed in the power of prayer, and was an encourager to both family and friends.

Gospel music always lifted her spirits, and the music of Conway Twitty or Loretta Lynn always brought a smile.

A perfect Saturday always included checking out the local yard sales and looking for a great bargain.

Jean was a longtime employee of LaGrange Day Care.

Her memory shines brightly in our hearts.

A service to celebrate Jean's life will be held Thursday, May 25, 2017, at 7 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home. A committal service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from Fairview Cemetery.

Jean is survived by three daughters, Lydia Outlaw and husband, Gordon, Velma Frizzelle and Thelma Johnson; two sisters, Lolas Blizzard and Bundy Pyatt; six grandchildren, Shelby King and husband, Darel, Lydia Bauer and husband, Tommy, Becky Dougan and husband, Patrick, Tonya Barnett, Benjamin Sexton and wife, Jamie, and Betty Sue Blizzard; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two special family friends, Faye Sutton and Ervin Johnson.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin Roby Long; brother, Thurston Corbett; and a special family friend, Mary Wagner.

Family and friends will be received Thursday following the service.

Jean's family would like to express a special thank you to Community Home Care and Hospice for the great care given to Jean.

Special thanks are extended to Bomita "Bo" Hardy and Karen Earnest for their loving care and support.

Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.

Arrangements are entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home of LaGrange.
