GERRY NANCE

Feb. 28, 1954-May 20, 2017

Gerry Nance, 63, Goldsboro, passed away suddenly Saturday, May 20, 2017, at his home.

Gerry was born in Chadbourn, N.C., Feb. 28, 1954, to the late Villa Wilson Nance and Helen Nobles Nance.

He had worked in law enforcement as a police officer with the Goldsboro Police Department, retiring as a sergeant, and later as a deputy with the Wayne County Sheriff Office.

Gerry was most comfortable outdoors.

He was a very strong believer in Jesus Christ, and felt that nothing was impossible when you place your trust in God. His faith gave him the courage to face anything in life.

Gerry was a member of Rosewood Church of God, and will be remembered for his love to sing gospel music.

Most important to Gerry was his family. Gerry worked so hard to make sure his wife and children were well taken care of. He was the best daddy, granddaddy and great-granddaddy, who will be truly missed.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 23, 2017, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Gerry's life at 2 p.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Jeff Barnes officiating.

Interment with police and sheriff honors will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Gerry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shirley Poston Nance; children, Garrison Nance and wife, Leigh Ann, of Goldsboro, Billy Nance of Goldsboro, Michelle Johnson and husband, Dustin, of Clayton and Eric Nance of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Gary Nance, Jerry Nance, Terry Nance, Courtney Mozingo, Corey Nance, Larry Nance and Trevor Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Garrison "Little G" Nance, Mason Mozingo, Vander Nance and Issac Nance.

He is also survived by his sisters, Janice Dowless and husband, Grady, Sarah Lewis and husband, Robert, and Shirley Haney, and brother, Terry Nance and wife, Gloria.
