J.L. Jones Jr., 84, Mount Olive area resident and well-known farmer and businessman, died Tuesday night, Nov. 15, at Wake Medical Center following a farm related accident occurring several weeks earlier.

Mr. Jones had served in the United States Army, was formerly employed at Wilson Motor Co., had various farming interests and was co-founder and longtime operator of Cashwell and Jones seed service.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Nov. 20, at 3 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bobby Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Johnston County 4-H Alumni Association as a means of honoring the longtime support to 4-H that he and his family have given.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, Nov. 19, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Mr. J.L. Jones is survived by his wife of 58 years, Evadeane Ingram Jones; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Bill Stovall of Clayton; a grandson, Jonathan Leslie Stovall of Clayton; a special friend of the family, Joy Lancaster of Mount Olive; and the families of his late brothers.

Family members who have preceded him in death include his parents, J. Leslie Jones and Addie Wolfe Jones, and his four brothers, Ruel Jones, Hurley "Shorty" Jones, Curtis "Pete" Jones and Elton "Skinner" Jones.
