Charles Monroe Roby, 73, Pikeville, passed away Tuesday evening at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Charles was born in Nelson County, Ky., Aug. 29, 1943, to the late William Earl Roby and Mary Elizabeth Abel Roby.

He retired as an insurance agent with Wayne County Farm Bureau after serving his community for 25 years.

Charles will be remembered by many for his love of fishing, woodworking and watching NASCAR, but most of all, his family.

Charles lived a life of dedication to his family and friends and to his community.

He served his community many ways as a member of Oakland Fire Department, where he served for 20 years, and with his service as a Shriner and a Road Runner for the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Charles was currently a member of Wayne Masonic Lodge No. 112 A.F. and A.M., and was past master of Lafayette Masonic Lodge No. 83 A.F. and A.M. in Jacksonville.

A service celebrating Charles' life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 1100 Pikeville-Princeton Road, Pikeville, of which he was a member, with the Rev. Barry Stallings officiating.

The family will greet friends Sunday following the service in the fellowship hall of Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church and other times at his home.

Interment will be Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, at noon in Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

Charles is survived by his wife, Vickie H. Roby; children, Charlene Roby Grant and husband, Terry, Christy Roby Keel and husband, Rodney, Leigh Christy Flowers and James Earl Sessoms II and wife, Susan; grandchildren, Alan Newcomb, Adam Newcomb, Heather Thomas, Scott Grant, Taylar Keel, Daly Keel, Mattie Grace Keel, Harper Cate Flowers, Logan Sessoms and Jessica Sessoms; and four great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his brothers, Jim Bill Roby and John W. Roby and wife, Linda; his lifetime friend, John Rice and wife, Mona; father-in-law, Elwood Harper and wife, Pat; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack and Chris Harper and Warren and Charlotte King; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Crystal Grant.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Charles' memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, S.C., 29605, or the charity of one's choice.
