David Aaron Johnson Jr. "Dave," 85, Matthews, N.C., formerly of Greensboro, N.C., died Nov. 15.
A native of Wayne County, N.C., he was the son of the late David Aaron Johnson Sr. and Lillian Hatcher Johnson.
Dave is survived by his wife, Maxine Collins Johnson; son, Eric David Johnson; daughter-in-law, Lauren Noelle Collins Johnson; and granddaughter, Katherine; as well as his brother, Tom; sisters, Ashton (George) and Rita; two stepsisters, Sara (Stan) and Geri (Ted); sisters-in-law, Camilla, Jane, Margaret and Shaun; brother-in-law, Ron; and loving nieces and nephews.
Dave earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Upon graduation, he moved to Greensboro, where he taught and coached in junior high school for four years.
He then served as an elementary school principal for 38 years with the Greensboro city/Guilford county schools.
A service will be held in the sanctuary of West Market Street United Methodist Church in Greensboro Saturday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m.
The family will receive friends in the church's gathering space following the service.
