Alex Ralph Casey Sr., 87, passed away Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Alex was born in Wayne County Dec. 27, 1928, one of 11 children, to the late Harvey Hern Casey Sr. and Lidia Sutton Casey.

Sept. 26, 1953, he married the love of his life, Grace Bradshaw Casey, who preceded him in death Nov. 13, 1998.

Alex proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

His first and favorite occupation was a dairy farmer, and many of his happiest times were spent on the family farm atop his John Deere tractor baling hay.

Alex was a longtime member of Casey's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in the Elroy community. He was devoted to his church, served as a deacon and trustee and was involved in many activities where he utilized his abilities to share the love of God.

Alex was a former member of Elroy Volunteer Fire Department.

Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, in the fellowship hall of Casey's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, followed by a service celebrating Alex's life at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Tony McLamb and the Rev. Alan Lamm officiating.

The family will also greet friends Sunday following the service in the fellowship hall and other times at his home.

Interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at Fairview Cemetery in LaGrange.

Alex is survived by his sons, Alex Ralph Casey Jr. and wife, Kay, George Harvey Casey and wife, Carla, William Charles Casey and Christopher Alan Casey and wife, Hope.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alex Ralph Casey III, Katlyn Virginia Casey, William Nicholas Casey, Justin Tyler Casey, Amanda Lynn Casey, Sarah Elizabeth Casey, Madolyn Grace Casey, Adrienne Hope Casey and Christopher Troy Casey.

Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be given to Casey's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 4913 U.S. 70 East, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
