Agnes Rouse Davis, 87, longtime resident of the Rosewood community of Goldsboro, peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord Friday evening, Nov. 11, 2016, surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Harper Davis; parents, Walter Allen and Jodie Mae Odom Rouse; sister, Ida Mae Rouse Grantham; and brother, James Allen Rouse.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Rhonda D. Allen and husband, Brent, of Goldsboro and Rita Jo D. Wooten and husband, David, of Kinston; three grandchildren, Chris Allen and wife, Michelle, of Manassas, Va., Duane Allen of Goldsboro and Joe Wooten of New Bern; and two great-grandchildren, Abby and Emily Allen of Manassas, Va.

A native of Wayne County, Mrs. Davis was born Feb. 19, 1929, and was the eldest of three children.

Following graduation from Rosewood School, she was employed with Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Co. of Goldsboro, N.C., until its closing.

She then began working as a teacher's assistant at Rosewood Elementary School and as a part-time sales associate at Belk. Her heart was with working with "her" children and the public.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, at Pine Forest United Methodist Church in her beloved Rosewood community, followed by visitation in the church fellowship hall.

The family extends sincere appreciation to Lenoir Memorial Hospital of Kinston and Kitty Askins Hospice Center of Goldsboro for their attentive care during her short illness.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pine Forest United Methodist Church, 867 N.C. 581 South, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
