MARTHA LANE BERRY

Martha Lane Berry, 87, Pikeville, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family and caregiver, Renee Campbell.
Martha was born in Wayne County, N.C., Aug. 8, 1928, to the late Joe and Gladys Best Lane.
She was married to the late David Harris Berry, who preceded her in death June 4, 2011.
Martha was a lifelong farmer with her husband in the Nahunta community, and was a trusted friend and neighbor.
She also owned and operated Berry Mobile Home Park.
Martha was a member of Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She will always be loved by her family, and will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
The family will receive friends Saturday, June 25, 2016, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church, followed by a service at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Sherman Dilley officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Martha is survived by her daughter, Cathy Scher of Pikeville; grandson, Zachery Scher; granddaughter, Mikayla Scher; sisters, Mollie Gurley and Ann Smith; brother, Willard Lane and wife, Becky; a special nephew, Kenneth Smith; and several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Martha was preceded in death by her son, Michael Berry, and son-in-law, Christopher Scher.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church, 1080 Gurley Dairy Road, Pikeville, N.C., 27863.
