COOPER DEES

Feb. 27, 1936-June 23, 2016

Thomas Cooper Dees, 80, Goldsboro, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Rex Healthcare in Raleigh surrounded by his family.

Thomas was born in Wayne County Feb. 27, 1936, to the late Milton Cooper Dees and Cora Mozingo Dees.

He grew up on the family farm in Nahunta, and continued farming after serving his country in the United States Navy.

With Thomas' love for farming, he began Thomas Dees Trucking Co., and traveled all over the United States delivering on his flat-bed trucks.

Thomas had a huge heart, always giving and reaching out to others; there wasn't a stranger he hadn't met. He loved to make people laugh. Most would remember the joy that Thomas' presence would bring and the love he had for piddling and fishing.

A service celebrating Thomas' life will be held Sunday, June 26, 2016, at 5 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home.

The family will greet friends Sunday immediately following the service at Seymour Funeral Home.

Interment will be Monday, June 27, 2016, at 11 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park with military honors.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lucinda Yelverton Dees; son, Thomas "Tommy" Cooper Dees Jr. of Pleasantville, S.C.; and three grandchildren.

He is also survived by his special bud, Ed Hardister; sister-in-law, Diana Yelverton and husband, Steve; niece, Angela Padgett; two great-nieces; and special family friends, Keith Hinnant and Bob Fuller.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 930B Wellness Drive, No. B, Greenville, N.C., 27834.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
