GROVER D. MASSEY

Aug. 21, 1925-May 16, 2016

Grover Douglas Massey, 90, passed away Monday, May 16, 2016, at his home.

Grover was born in Wake County Aug. 21, 1925, to the late Millard Fillmore Massey and Hattie Fowler Massey.

He was married for 71 years to the late Ruby Baugus Massey, who preceded him in death April 1, 2015.

Grover retired as the maintenance superintendent at Cherry Hospital.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.

Grover was a member of First Christian Church and Wayne Masonic Lodge No. 112 A.F. and A.M.

Scouting played a large role in Grover's life. Grover served scouts in the Tuscarora Council for many years in various capacities; he dedicated much of his adult life to training boys in scouting.

A service celebrating Grover's life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2016, at First Christian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Penny Ziemer officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Grover is survived by his son, Grover D. Massey Jr. and wife, Kaye, of Mount Olive; daughter, Celia M. Dean and husband, Eric, of Goldsboro; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to First Christian Church, 1609 E. Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or the charity of one's choice.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 19, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
