Retired Senior Master Sgt. James Russell Brown Jr., 55, Goldsboro, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016, at home.

A service to celebrate his life will be held Friday, May 20, 2016, at noon in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro. Burial will follow at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro with full military honors.

The family will be received immediately after the service at the home of Cheryl Brown.

Mr. Brown was born May 29, 1960, in Germany.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Russell Brown Sr.

He is survived by his mother, Lucille Brown of Chesapeake, Va.; son, Staff Sgt. Michael Brown of Warner Robins, Ga.; daughter, Tech Sgt. Kelly Brown of Goldsboro; their mother, Cheryl Brown of Goldsboro; stepdaughter, Tanisha Ore Samuel; his significant other, Michelle Dozier Brown; three sisters, Anita Brown of Virginia, Cmdr. Cynthia Carney of Virginia and Beverly Brown Dawson of Alabama; and two grandchildren, Clifford and Joseph Davenport.

Mr. Brown could always be found listening to his favorite music or playing his bass guitar. His gardening skills and conversation were second to none.

He is most remembered for his loving heart and sense of humor. The sincere impressions he's left on our hearts will last forever. We love you and we miss you. May God keep you in perfect peace.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 19, 2016, from 4 to 7 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m.

Professional services entrusted to Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.
