HARRY V. POTEAT

Harry Vance Poteat, 87, Goldsboro, passed away Monday, April 18, 2016, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Harry was born in Spartanburg, S.C., Dec. 16, 1928, to the late George V. Poteat and Lucy Sane Poteat.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, and retired as a master sergeant.

Following his military career, Harry went to work with O'Berry Center as a food service supervisor, and retired after 20 years of service.

Harry was a member of Antioch Presbyterian Church PCA.

He also enjoyed yard work and gardening, as reflected by his beautiful yard.

A service to celebrate Harry's life will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kelly Buffaloe officiating. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park with full military honors.

Harry is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy Baughan Poteat; son, Vance Eugene Poteat and wife, Tracy, of Windham, N.H.; and his grandchildren, Rebekah Poteat, Marylynn Wynne and husband, Jay, and Jonathan Poteat.

He is also survived by a sister, Estelle Powell of Danville, Va., and several nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, or Antioch Presbyterian Church, 2306 Old Smithfield Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
